Band Bio = Beginning as a garage rock band, the Squash Blossom Boys played everything from jazz to reggae only to finally become a Bluegrass band. Odd as it may seem, the ensemble characterizes a new generation that does not define itself according to any one given style, movement, or genre of music. The Squash Blossom Boys are no exception. Influenced by the grunge rock of their youth, the virtuosity of Jazz music, and the finely tuned craftsmanship of acoustic instruments, the Boys retrofit Bluegrass to multitude of inspiration. Here is what people are saying about the Squash Blossom Boys: “There is a young band from Albuquerque called The Squash Blossom Boys that embodies that pure love of music. They take old blues and folk songs from the 1920s and ’30s and rave some of them up into an out of control freight train. When any group of people get together to pursue their shared love of music, great things are always possible.” Jim Webb, Taos Daily News “So all five of the Boys were huddled around a single microphone, like happy hobos warming themselves over a railcar fire” Tracy M. Kjelland “The Squash Blossom Boys. They are talented in their instruments. They are a young local blue grass/folk type band and they play at various venues, even La Montanita Co-Op sometimes. Check them out if you ever have the chance. I have a feeling you may enjoy them, I know I did and I have never listened to that type of music.” “These young men are so very talented and stop in your tracks good! Find them and go listen! You will want to jump up and start dancing — definitely a feel good experience. They give a performance you won’t forget. Each of them bring a practiced artistry to the group and you’ll have an opportunity to enjoy each of their talents as well as the combined excellence of the group. This is just from getting to listen to them by accident as I was shopping at Whole Foods, I am a fan!” |
